We’re always yammering on about how we’re one big happy family at the BBC. Given how many of our employees have been with us for 10+ years, it’s not an unreasonable claim. Some of peeps have even worked with us since we opened 20 years ago. In the case of Rachael Gottsche, the general manager at our Manchester pub, it’s not just a claim; it’s a fact.

When we  were there recently, Rachael’s sister Jackie was also working. But wait; there’s more. Rachael’s brother also works at our Manchester restaurant and yet another sister used to work there as well. As we were chatting, Rachael explained that her siblings “…don’t make me manage them; they know what needs to be done and just do it.”

Good thing or it might make for some extremely uncomfortable family gatherings.

While we were talking with Rachael on that sunny afternoon, we couldn’t help but notice a certain something sparkly on a certain finger. One would have to be daft not know what that stunning diamond ring indicated but, because we’re not always the brightest bulbs in the pack, we double-checked and Rachael confirmed it.

She’s getting married! Really soon! On September 1st!

As we oohed and aahed over her ring, Rachael shared the details of the oh-so romantic proposal.

“We were on vacation in Santorini,” she explained. “When we got to the island, he said he had a surprise set up for me. He’d hired a photographer. I thought ‘okay, sounds awesome.’ We’d never had professional photos of us. I had my suspicions, but didn’t want to psych myself out.”

The photo shoot was just about to wrap and it seemed like Rachael’s “suspicions” weren’t going to pan out.

Not so fast.

“I was looking out at the ocean and when I turned around, he was down on one knee. I put my hands over my face and he didn’t hear me say ‘Yes.’ He was down there for like five minutes and I finally said, ‘Are you going to put it on my finger?’”

He replied, “Is that a yes?”

Why yes it was. Congratulations, Rachael; we wish you a lifetime of happiness.
