We heard about this friendly rivalry up north in between P.E.I. and New Brunswick to see which town could come up with the world’s largest lobster roll. Last fall, P.E.I. bested New Brunswick by chef-ing up a lobster roll that measured 36.5 meters long. Luckily, the story translated that number into feet – those Canadians and their metric system – so we were able to understand that it was 120 feet long.
While that is one impressively long lobster roll, we BBC’ers are always up for a challenge and immediately saw an opportunity to bring bragging rights to the States. We plan on besting the current world record for the biggest lobster roll at our Portsmouth pub on Father’s Day, June 18th. Us being us, we had to work a little beer into the scenario, so we’re calling it LobHopSter Fest. And yes, there will be beer.
We’ll be closing down the street to vehicle traffic and pulling together a big party as we set out to break the lobster roll record by filling a 150 feet-long roll with 200 pounds of succulent New England lobster meat. Local breweries will be on hand with samples and swag. Walrus Gumboot, everyone’s favorite Beatles’ tribute band, will be performing live and we’ll have face painting for the kids.
Once we officially clinch the title, we are not going to let that lobster roll go to waste. We’ll be selling portions of it and donating all of the proceeds to Hero Pups, a New Hampshire-based nonprofit organization that raises and trains therapy dogs who are then placed with veterans.
LobHopSter Fest is sure to be a taste-good/feel-good, fun-filled event. Bring dad down for what’s going to be the best Father’s Day… ever.
