This week, the producers of the “Downton Abbey” movie announced a release date of September 2019. Fans of the long-running PBS show are rejoicing.

Julian Fellowes, the show’s creator, has written the screenplay and will co-produce with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. Michael Engler is directing the film.

Who’s in: Many of the original cast: Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith, Joanne Froggatt, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter,┬áBrendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol and Penelope Wilton.

New cast members will include Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore.

Who’s out: Lilly James (Lady Rose). At the end of the TV show’s final episode in December 2015, her character had moved to New York with her new husband.

Presumably, the movie will pick up where the show left off. The kids should be older…. Will Anna and Bates have had a child? How are Lady Mary’s and Lady Edith’s marriages faring? And how is Barrow coping with his new role in the household?

Alas, so many questions. To be answered next fall!
