After we caught a glimpse of the new Royal Baby Monday morning, the British Family finally appeased us by announcing on Twitter today the name of the newest member of the Royal Family. His name is… drumroll please…
Louis Arthur Charles! He will be known as His royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.
What a smart-sounding chap! We love him already.
Prince Louis of Cambridge is the fifth in line to the throne, after his grandfather Prince Charles; his father; and his siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Before the announcement, bookmakers had gathered outside Kensington Palace. Among the names that gamblers had favored were Arthur, Albert and Philip.
Louis is Prince William’s fourth name and was apparently chosen by his father, Prince Charles, as a tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, a mentor of Prince Charles’s, a prominent British naval officer and the Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle.
Charles was most likely chosen in honor of William’s father. Both Prince William and Prince Charles have Arthur in their names.
And that’s not the only bit of exciting royal news! Yesterday, Kensington Palace announced that Harry had asked William to be the best man at his wedding, which we all know will take place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, on May 19. (We’ll be announcing exciting BBC royal wedding themed events soon!)
Welcome to the world, Prince Louis!
